Born of the Spirit: New Life, Not Religious Improvement
God does not merely improve our religious appearance; He gives us new life in Christ.Scripture Foundations
John 3:5-6 (KJV)
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Thematic study passages: John 3:1-21; Titus 3:3-7; Ezekiel 36:25-27
Daily Bible Tour: DAY 94 OF 365 2 Samuel 13–15
The Bible Tour follows three consecutive chapters each day. These readings are separate from the approved Holy Spirit thematic passages above.
Devotional Teaching
Nicodemus came to Jesus with knowledge, respectability, and religious standing. Yet Jesus told him that he needed to be born again. The problem was deeper than a lack of information or discipline. Human effort cannot generate the life of God's kingdom. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit: the Holy Spirit brings about a new beginning that we cannot manufacture for ourselves.
This is the ministry of regeneration, the giving of new spiritual life. Titus 3:5 places its source in God's mercy rather than our works of righteousness. We do not earn this life by attending enough services, giving enough money, or having an unusual experience. Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again; we turn from sin and trust Him as Saviour and Lord. The Spirit brings the gospel home to the heart, awakening faith and creating a new relationship with God.
Ezekiel's promise of a new heart helps us understand the direction of this transformation. God does not only issue commands from outside; He works within His people so that obedience becomes a response to His grace. A heart of stone resists correction. A tender heart can acknowledge wrongdoing, receive forgiveness, and learn a different way. New birth does not mean instant maturity, but it gives a new source of life from which maturity can grow.
Someone may ask, 'I still face temptation; does that mean nothing happened?' Temptation is not the same as surrendering to it, and growth is not always immediate. The question is not whether you have become flawless overnight, but whether you are relying on Christ and learning to turn toward Him. When you fail, return through confession rather than creating a religious disguise. The Spirit who gives life also teaches you how to live it. Seek Christian fellowship and receive help where habits remain strong.
As KDC prays for the manifestation of God's power, we must never overlook the wonder of conversion. A heart turning from pride to repentance, a person receiving forgiveness, or a household beginning to follow Jesus is not a lesser work than a visible miracle. Pray today for people to encounter the gospel clearly. Where you yourself need a new beginning, come honestly to Jesus. The invitation is not to repair yourself first, but to trust the Saviour who receives sinners and makes them new.
Deeper Insight
The starting point of spiritual power is not religious performance but the new life the Holy Spirit gives through faith in Christ.
Scripture-Led Prayers and Declarations
1. Receive and rest in mercy
Titus 3:5 (KJV)
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Prayer: Father, I thank You that salvation rests on Your mercy. Turn my heart from self-righteousness and from hopelessness. I place my trust in Jesus Christ, crucified and risen. Let the renewing work of Your Spirit be real and fruitful in my life.
Declaration: My confidence is in God's mercy through Jesus, not in my religious achievements.
2. Ask for a tender heart
Ezekiel 36:26-27 (KJV)
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
Prayer: Lord, soften every area where I have resisted Your truth. Give me a heart willing to repent, learn, and obey. Work within me so that my choices reflect the new life You give, and help me leave behind patterns that dishonour You.
Declaration: By God's grace, my heart is becoming tender and responsive. I will walk in His ways.
3. Pray for salvation
Romans 10:9 (KJV)
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Prayer: Father, bring our relatives, neighbours, and guests to genuine faith in Jesus. Let the gospel be clearly heard at KDC and Banquet with the King. Grant us wisdom to explain salvation simply and love to help new believers grow.
Declaration: Jesus is Lord. I will share His gospel clearly and welcome those who turn to Him.
Daily Declaration
I trust in Jesus Christ, who died for my sins and rose again. By the mercy of God, I receive new life through the Holy Spirit. My past will not define the limits of His transforming work. I will repent honestly, receive His forgiveness, and grow in obedience. Let the power of the gospel bring new beginnings to my family and community. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Practical Action
Write a simple account of what trusting Jesus means to you. Pray by name for one person who needs Him, and arrange a gracious conversation when appropriate.
Journal Prompt
Am I depending on Jesus Himself, or on the appearance of being a religious person?
OUR UNITED DECLARATION FOR NOVEMBER
We are a people loved by the Father, redeemed by Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
This November, we yield ourselves afresh to God. We receive grace to know His Word, obey His voice and walk in His wisdom.
We trust Him for mercy, favour, direction and provision. We bring our families, marriages, health, careers and businesses under His care. We will work diligently, love faithfully and follow His leading.
We ask for fresh fire, fresh dew and fresh empowerment. May our faith deepen, our understanding grow and our service bear lasting fruit.
We dedicate KDC, Banquet with the King, the Regina City Mass Choir, RCRC and 1,000 Voices to the glory of God. Let worship rise, let the gospel be heard, let lives be restored and let people come to Jesus.
Lord, manifest Your power in us, through us and among us. Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!
