The Holy Spirit Is God: Worship, Not Mere Influence

Reverence grows when we recognise whose presence we carry.

Scripture Foundations

Acts 5:3-4 (KJV)

But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

Thematic study passages: Acts 5:1-11; Matthew 3:13-17; Matthew 28:18-20

Daily Bible Tour: DAY 93 OF 365 2 Samuel 10–12

The Bible Tour follows three consecutive chapters each day. These readings are separate from the approved Holy Spirit thematic passages above.

Devotional Teaching

In Acts 5, Ananias and Sapphira tried to appear more generous than they truly were. Peter explained that the deception was not merely against human leaders: lying to the Holy Spirit was lying to God. Their story is sobering because the Church was not a stage for managing appearances. God Himself was present among His people. The Spirit is not an impersonal influence that can be manipulated or a religious title that can be used to impress others.

The New Testament identifies the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit together. At Jesus' baptism, the Son is in the water, the Spirit descends, and the Father's voice is heard. Jesus later commissions disciples to baptise in the one name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. These passages lead Christians to confess one God in three distinct Persons, not three competing gods and not one Person merely changing roles. We cannot reduce God's being to a perfect human analogy, but we can trust what He has revealed.

This truth changes worship. We do not invite a lesser assistant to supply what the Father and Son cannot provide. We honour the holy, wise, life-giving God who is present with us. The Spirit's work is never in competition with Jesus: He glorifies Christ. Genuine attention to the Holy Spirit therefore deepens love for Jesus and confidence in the Father's goodness. Reverence and intimacy belong together; familiarity with biblical language must not become casualness toward God.

Scripture sometimes describes the Spirit's work using wind, fire, water, or the sign of a dove. These images communicate aspects of His activity; they are not His complete identity. Wind speaks of an activity we cannot control; living water points toward life and refreshment. We should not mistake an image, physical sensation, or symbol for the Person Himself. The Spirit remains holy and personal whether a gathering is quiet or emotionally intense.

Today, let recognition of His deity produce integrity. Tell the truth even when a polished version would make you look better. Honour commitments that no one can enforce. Refuse the temptation to exaggerate a testimony or claim divine approval for a personal preference. A heart that reveres God can be honest before Him. The manifestation of His power is never permission to neglect His character; it is a call to worship Him with the whole of life.

Deeper Insight

The Holy Spirit's divine presence calls us to honest worship: no performance can substitute for a truthful heart.

Scripture-Led Prayers and Declarations

1. Worship the triune God

Matthew 28:19 (KJV)

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Prayer: Father, deepen my reverence for You, Your Son, and Your Holy Spirit. Remove confused ideas that reduce You to something I can control. Let my worship be grounded in Your revelation and my obedience flow from grateful love.

Declaration: I worship the one true God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. My life belongs to Him.

2. Live honestly before God

Psalm 139:7 (KJV)

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

Prayer: Lord, You see my private thoughts and public actions. Cleanse me from pretending, exaggeration, and hidden dishonesty. Make me the same person in secret and before others. Let awareness of Your presence lead me into truth, not fear-driven hiding.

Declaration: I live before the presence of God. I choose honesty, humility, and integrity.

3. Keep Jesus central

John 16:14 (KJV)

He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, glorify Jesus in our church and in every November gathering. Keep our ministries free from personality worship. Let teaching, music, prayer, and testimony reveal the beauty of Christ and lead people to trust Him.

Declaration: Jesus is the centre of my worship. Whatever God does among us, the glory belongs to Him.

Daily Declaration

The Holy Spirit is God, and I honour His holy presence. I reject spiritual pretence and yield my private life to the Lord. My worship will exalt Jesus; my words will be truthful; my conduct will reflect reverence. I receive grace to walk with God sincerely and to serve without seeking His glory for myself. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Practical Action

Examine one area where you are tempted to manage appearances. Make one truthful correction, then worship God without asking for anything for a few minutes.

OUR UNITED DECLARATION FOR NOVEMBER

We are a people loved by the Father, redeemed by Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

This November, we yield ourselves afresh to God. We receive grace to know His Word, obey His voice and walk in His wisdom.

We trust Him for mercy, favour, direction and provision. We bring our families, marriages, health, careers and businesses under His care. We will work diligently, love faithfully and follow His leading.

We ask for fresh fire, fresh dew and fresh empowerment. May our faith deepen, our understanding grow and our service bear lasting fruit.

We dedicate KDC, Banquet with the King, the Regina City Mass Choir, RCRC and 1,000 Voices to the glory of God. Let worship rise, let the gospel be heard, let lives be restored and let people come to Jesus.

Lord, manifest Your power in us, through us and among us. Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!
