TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL
Jesus and the Spirit: Anointed to Do Good
Daily Bible Tour: DAY 98 OF 365 1 Kings 1–3
“The pattern of spiritual power is seen most clearly in the character and ministry of Jesus.”
Peter summarised Jesus' ministry with words that belong at the heart of our November theme: God anointed Jesus with the Holy Ghost and power, and He went about doing good. Power and goodness were not competing priorities. Jesus healed, delivered, taught, welcomed, and restored. His authority served the Father's purpose and met people with compassion. Anyone seeking the Spirit's empowerment should study the One whom the Spirit glorifies. The Gospels present Jesus as the eternal Son who truly became human. His dependence on the Father and ministry in the Spirit do not make Him less than God. They reveal the faithfulness of the incarnate Son and show us what obedient human life looks like. Luke places His public ministry alongside His prayer, His testing in the wilderness, and His commitment to Scripture. Visible authority did not replace hidden faithfulness. Jesus refused to use divine power as a performance for temptation. He did not turn stones into bread merely to prove His identity or leap from the temple to force a dramatic rescue. He answered with Scripture and remained submitted to the Father. This matters whenever we feel pressure to produce an impressive result. Faithfulness is not measured by how much attention we attract. We must never invent a testimony, manipulate a response, or pressure a vulnerable person to protect our reputation. Notice also that Jesus withdrew to pray while people were looking for Him. Need was real, but the crowd did not become His lord. Fellowship with the Father helped govern His movement and priorities. We too must learn the difference between compassion and the belief that we must personally meet every demand. Prayer, wise limits, rest, and shared responsibility support faithful service rather than diminishing it. Today, ask what doing good will look like within your actual responsibilities. Pray for someone who is unwell. Explain the gospel clearly. Encourage a discouraged worker. Help without making the recipient feel indebted to you. As KDC prepares for Banquet with the King, let every desire for anointing include a desire for the compassion of Christ. The Spirit's power is not a decoration for our name; it equips us to make the goodness of Jesus known.
