Honouring God with our substance includes both generosity and wise management.

Devotional Teaching

Honouring God with our substance includes both generosity and wise management. A budget can express love when it provides for dependants, fulfils obligations and makes room to give. Resist waste and the appearance of prosperity financed by irresponsible decisions. Seek help where money has become confusing or burdensome. Proverbs teaches the wisdom of honouring God; it should not be used as a guarantee of effortless wealth. Let your resources tell the truth about your priorities. Faithful stewardship begins with today’s decisions, however modest the amount in your hands.

Deeper Insight

1 Samuel 14–16 exposes rash leadership, selective obedience and the importance of the heart. Saul’s claim that spared animals would be offered to God could not excuse disobedience. A religious gift cannot substitute for honesty in how resources are obtained or used.
