Seeing People with Compassion

Jesus saw more than a crowd; He saw people carrying burdens and needing care.

Scripture Foundations

Matthew 9:36 (KJV) — “But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.”
Romans 12:15 (KJV) — “Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.”

Bible Tour: DAY 70 OF 365 Joshua 21–23

Devotional Teaching

Jesus saw more than a crowd; He saw people carrying burdens and needing care. Compassion begins when we slow down enough to notice. The lonely newcomer, worried parent or exhausted colleague needs more than a quick judgment. Ask, listen and avoid assuming that you know their story. Love can offer prayer, practical help and connection to appropriate support. We do not have to solve every difficulty to be present faithfully. Let KDC become a community where people are recognised by name and welcomed with dignity, especially when life is complicated.

Deeper Insight

Joshua 21–23 records God’s faithfulness, a dangerous misunderstanding over an altar and Joshua’s warning to remain faithful. In chapter 22, conversation reveals the eastern tribes’ intention and prevents conflict. Listening can protect relationships from unnecessary harm.

Biblical Examples

  • The eastern tribes (Joshua 22): Careful explanation resolves an alarming misunderstanding.
  • Jesus (Matthew 9:35–38): Compassion leads Him to teach, heal and call for prayer.
  • The Samaritan (Luke 10:30–37): He responds to suffering with costly practical care.

Prayer Focus

  1. Give us Your compassion for the lost, hurting and forgotten.
  2. Remove harsh judgment and teach us to listen carefully.
  3. Make KDC a church that welcomes people and helps carry their burdens.

Spirit-Led Growth Step

Ask the Holy Spirit to interrupt your assumptions about someone. Listen for their actual need before deciding how to help.

Daily Declaration

The compassion of Jesus shapes how we see and treat people. We carry His love into our community.

Practical Action

Listen to someone without interrupting, then ask what kind of support would be useful.

Journal Prompt

Whose need have I overlooked because I judged too quickly?
