Understanding Times and Opportunities

Discernment recognizes what God is doing now and the response this moment requires.

Devotional Teaching

An opportunity can be God-given, premature, distracting or already passing. Discernment helps us tell the difference. Understanding the times requires prayer, knowledge of Scripture, attention to facts and freedom from panic. It also requires readiness: an unprepared person can pray for a door and still miss it. The Holy Spirit teaches when to fight, rest, build, learn, speak, wait or move. Higher exploits come when spiritual sensitivity and practical awareness meet.

Deeper Insight

A new season required more than excitement about the land. Israel had to remember God's acts, guard His Word and form children who would love Him. Understanding the times means recognizing what must now be preserved, practised and transferred so opportunity becomes generational fruit.

Biblical Examples

  • Israel at the Edge of Canaan (Deuteronomy 4-6): They were called to remember, love God wholeheartedly and teach His words diligently to the next generation.
  • The Sons of Issachar (1 Chronicles 12:32): Their influence came from understanding both the times and Israel's required action.
  • Esther and Mordecai (Esther 4): They recognized that a dangerous moment also contained a providential assignment.
