The Love That Identifies Disciples

Jesus makes mutual love a visible mark of discipleship.

Scripture Foundations

John 13:34–35 (KJV) — “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
Ephesians 4:32 (KJV) — “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”

Bible Tour: DAY 73 OF 365 Judges 6–8

Devotional Teaching

Jesus makes mutual love a visible mark of discipleship. This love reaches beyond friendliness during a service. It addresses gossip, envy, partiality and the resentments we carry quietly. Forgiveness releases personal vengeance and opens the way toward healing; rebuilding trust may still require truth, time and wise boundaries. Speak directly and graciously when a relationship needs repair. Refuse to recruit others into an offence. A loving church values each person while taking harmful conduct seriously. Let Christ’s treatment of you shape your next conversation with someone who is difficult to love.

Deeper Insight

Judges 6–8 follows Gideon’s call, victory and the troubled aftermath. Gideon’s gentle answer to Ephraim in 8:1–3 calms a dispute, while later events show the danger of pride and spiritual compromise after success.

Biblical Examples

  • Gideon’s answer (Judges 8:1–3): Gentle words defuse an angry complaint.
  • Jesus (John 13:1–17): He washes His disciples’ feet before commanding mutual love.
  • Joseph (Genesis 50:15–21): He rejects revenge and reassures his brothers.

Prayer Focus

  1. Teach us to love one another as Christ loves us.
  2. Heal offences and remove gossip, jealousy and partiality.
  3. Make KDC a family where truth, safety and restoration are valued.
