Jesus and the Spirit: Anointed to Do Good
The pattern of spiritual power is seen most clearly in the character and ministry of Jesus.Scripture Foundations

Devotional Teaching
Peter summarised Jesus' ministry with words that belong at the heart of our November theme: God anointed Jesus with the Holy Ghost and power, and He went about doing good. Power and goodness were not competing priorities. Jesus healed, delivered, taught, welcomed, and restored. His authority served the Father's purpose and met people with compassion. Anyone seeking the Spirit's empowerment should study the One whom the Spirit glorifies.
The Gospels present Jesus as the eternal Son who truly became human. His dependence on the Father and ministry in the Spirit do not make Him less than God. They reveal the faithfulness of the incarnate Son and show us what obedient human life looks like. Luke places His public ministry alongside His prayer, His testing in the wilderness, and His commitment to Scripture. Visible authority did not replace hidden faithfulness.
Jesus refused to use divine power as a performance for temptation. He did not turn stones into bread merely to prove His identity or leap from the temple to force a dramatic rescue. He answered with Scripture and remained submitted to the Father. This matters whenever we feel pressure to produce an impressive result. Faithfulness is not measured by how much attention we attract. We must never invent a testimony, manipulate a response, or pressure a vulnerable person to protect our reputation.
Notice also that Jesus withdrew to pray while people were looking for Him. Need was real, but the crowd did not become His lord. Fellowship with the Father helped govern His movement and priorities. We too must learn the difference between compassion and the belief that we must personally meet every demand. Prayer, wise limits, rest, and shared responsibility support faithful service rather than diminishing it.
Today, ask what doing good will look like within your actual responsibilities. Pray for someone who is unwell. Explain the gospel clearly. Encourage a discouraged worker. Help without making the recipient feel indebted to you. As KDC prepares for Banquet with the King, let every desire for anointing include a desire for the compassion of Christ. The Spirit's power is not a decoration for our name; it equips us to make the goodness of Jesus known.
Deeper Insight
The anointing is not an invitation to impress people; it is empowerment to serve God and do good.
Scripture-Led Prayers and Declarations
1. Receive Christlike compassion
Luke 4:18 (KJV)
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Prayer: Father, let the compassion of Jesus govern my desire for spiritual power. Give me eyes for the poor, the wounded, and those longing for freedom. Help every minister among us bring the gospel with truth, tenderness, and courage.
Declaration: I receive grace to serve with the compassion of Christ. People matter more than my reputation.
2. Protect the secret place
Mark 1:35 (KJV)
And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Prayer: Lord, teach me to make room for prayer before demands consume my attention. Help me serve diligently without neglecting fellowship with You, my household, or necessary rest. Establish a healthy rhythm of dependence and obedience.
Declaration: My service will flow from fellowship with God. I will seek Him before being governed by pressure.
3. Serve from dependence
John 15:5 (KJV)
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, deliver us from self-sufficient ministry. Sustain our leaders, musicians, volunteers, and families. Let the good we do arise from abiding in Christ, and let every testimony lead others to honour Him.
Declaration: Apart from Christ I can do nothing. In Him, I receive grace to bear good fruit.
Daily Declaration
I follow Jesus, the anointed Son who went about doing good. I receive the Spirit's help to love, pray, witness, and serve faithfully. I reject performance and refuse to use people for attention. My private fellowship will support my public responsibility. Through my words and actions, may others encounter the goodness of Christ. All the glory belongs to God. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Practical Action
Read one healing account in the Gospels. Notice both Jesus' authority and His treatment of the person, then carry out one quiet act of kindness.
Journal Prompt
Does my desire for spiritual power include a growing willingness to serve without recognition?
OUR UNITED DECLARATION FOR NOVEMBER
We are a people loved by the Father, redeemed by Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
This November, we yield ourselves afresh to God. We receive grace to know His Word, obey His voice and walk in His wisdom.
We trust Him for mercy, favour, direction and provision. We bring our families, marriages, health, careers and businesses under His care. We will work diligently, love faithfully and follow His leading.
We ask for fresh fire, fresh dew and fresh empowerment. May our faith deepen, our understanding grow and our service bear lasting fruit.
We dedicate KDC, Banquet with the King, the Regina City Mass Choir, RCRC and 1,000 Voices to the glory of God. Let worship rise, let the gospel be heard, let lives be restored and let people come to Jesus.
Lord, manifest Your power in us, through us and among us. Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!
